my bubbl. app — privacy policy

my bubbl. is a food, fitness and cycle tracking app made by bubbl., based in Auckland, New Zealand. Your body, your data. We built my bubbl. so that everything you log stays private, on your own phone.

The short version

  • We don't collect your personal information. There's no account, no sign-up and no cloud storage.
  • What you log stays on your phone. That includes your food, exercise, weight and period data. We can't see it, and we don't keep a copy.
  • We don't sell, share or advertise with your data. There are no ads, no analytics tools and no tracking in the app.
  • The only time the app goes online is to look up foods in the free Open Food Facts database.

What you enter, and where it's kept

To work out your goals and track your progress, the app asks for and stores:

  • About you: your first name, year of birth, height, weight, goal weight, activity level and goal.
  • Your logs: foods and serving sizes, custom foods, exercise, water, weigh-ins and goal settings.
  • Your cycle: period dates and flow, symptoms, mood, energy and any notes you write.

All of this is saved only in the app's private storage on your device. It is never sent to bubbl. or anyone else.

Phone backups: if you have iCloud Backup (iPhone) or Google backup (Android) switched on, your phone may include the app's data in your own personal backup. That backup is controlled by you and Apple or Google under their privacy terms. bubbl. has no access to it.

Food search and barcode scanning

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the app sends your search words or the barcode number to Open Food Facts to get the nutrition details. Like any website, Open Food Facts will see standard technical information such as your device's internet (IP) address. Nothing else from the app is included: not your name, your logs or your cycle data. Open Food Facts is a non-profit, and its own privacy policy applies to those requests.

The built-in "basics" foods, your recent foods and your own custom foods work without the internet.

Camera

The app asks for camera access only to scan food barcodes. The camera is used only while the scanner screen is open. No photos or video are taken, saved or sent. Only the barcode number is read. You can turn camera access off at any time in your phone's settings.

Deleting your data

You're in control:

  • In the app: go to settings → privacy → delete all my data. This permanently wipes everything from your phone.
  • Uninstalling my bubbl. also removes its data from your phone. Copies in your own iCloud or Google backups are managed in your phone's backup settings.

Because we don't hold any of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and nothing to request from us.

Health information and medical disclaimer

my bubbl. is a general wellness app. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Calorie goals, cycle predictions and phase tips are estimates and general information only. Cycle predictions are not a form of contraception and should not be used to prevent or plan a pregnancy. Please check with your doctor or a health professional before making changes to your diet, exercise or health, or if you have concerns about your cycle.

Who the app is for

my bubbl. is intended for people aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. All information stays on the user's own device.

Your privacy rights

We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and the app is designed around the principle of collecting nothing at all. If you have a question or concern about privacy, contact us at the email below. In New Zealand you can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. In Australia, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app works differently, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version is released. An example would be optional accounts or cloud backup. If we ever start collecting personal information, we'll tell you clearly in the app and ask for your permission first.
